Nachtspur gently weaves light and motion into the urban landscape, tracing the cycloid curves of a bicycle with four 33-meter-long LED strips running parallel to Skalitzer Straße in Kreuzberg. These strips are mounted on a steel framework suspended from the viaduct of Berlin’s U-Bahn line 1, illuminating the transitional space between the busy intersection at Görlitzer Bahnhof and the test field or bike path envisioned by the Reallabor Radbahn for 2024.

The distinctive shape of the LED curves is formed through the rotating joints of the steel structure. The two outer blue LED strips are connected to the power grid and light up automatically at dusk. In contrast, the two inner green strips are powered by bicycles that act as generators.

Each evening, passersby and local residents are invited to interact with this new public space—activating and enhancing the historic U-Bahn viaduct through participation and movement.

The spiral greets students and passersby with its warm hues, transforming this busy neighborhood square into a place of connection and shared experience.
